Tēnā koutou ngā kaipānui katoa!
Yesterday encapsulated the spirit of kotahitanga (unity) that drives us as a collective to say, ‘ē kāo bro’ 😎
I began the day chairing our Te Ao Matihiko: Te Hapori Matihiko me Te Matarau board (Māori in DigiTech) hui, where we reflected on this year’s progress and our collective efforts to strengthen our hapori (community) through whanaungatanga, technology, pathways, policy, research, and collaboration. Shout-outs to our Kaiwhakahaere (CE) Katie Brown, about to bring a beautiful bub into the world. Ngā mihi for all the mahi you have done, inc your general choiceness. You are appreciated e tuahine nē 😘 Congratulations on the WIN at the Gen Awards!! Ngā mihi Dr Karaitiana Taiuru JP, MInstD for attending the awards to represent us e kara xx
Following the hui, I joined our vibrant Toitu te tiriti hikoi in Whanganui-a-Tara, engaging with both rangatahi (youth) and kaumatua (elders). Their insights, especially from our kaumatua who have walked this path for decades, (I’m only on hikoi 4) imbued the day with a profound sense of purpose and perspective. Their shared wisdom reminds us of the deep roots and broad reach of our shared kaupapa.
At the ALGIM Conference this morning, I gave an update on our Localised Digital Equity Framework (LDEF) and Inclusion Score, pivotal tools in our pursuit to ensure no one is left behind as we advance digitally towards Digital Excellence. These initiatives are not just about technology but about creating pathways that honour our te tiriti commitments and enhance the well-being of all New Zealanders.
In these challenging times, our commitment to kotahitanga is more vital than ever. By fostering an environment of collaboration and mutual respect, we not only bridge divides but also forge a resilient society equipped to face the future with confidence.
As we weave these threads together—community engagement, leadership, and technological innovation—we embody the principles of Toitū te Tiriti (Hold fast to the Treaty) and Toitū te iwi (Sustain the people). Our actions in this moment are seeds for a thriving, equitable future for all of Aotearoa – and perhaps being great role models for the rest of the world. Just sayin 🌏
Let us all carry forward this whakaaro from our kaumatua: ‘When the whenua and its people achieve self-determination, they unlock their full potential to flourish independently and collectively.’
Honouring promises lays the foundation for, and/or rebuilds trust. Great nations are built on such pillars – where commitment and integrity lead to a unified, prosperous future.
